I am a thirty something female, living in Rotterdam (the Netherlands) with my boyfriend. Although I absolutely feel at home in Rotterdam, my true home is in Suriname where I was born and raised. Whilst deciding on studies I chose IT as I absolutely hated anything to do with Finance. An alternative could have been studying languages, but at that time IT seemed to be a good choice. I also love to travel and learn about other cultures. Working for an international IT consultancy company for more over 11 years now has given me the opportunity to combine working in IT with the travel and meeting new people all across the world.
I also like to go out (or stay in) and take pictures of almost everything. My boyfriend and family & friends are somewhat used to me snapping away with my camera or phone, which is a great thing as I am trying to get better at taking pictures. I don’t really like to post process my pictures a lot, so I always try to figure out how to get the best result in one shot. Trial and error, but having a lot of fun with it 🙂
The name of the blog was made up by a lady whom I met not that long ago this year. I quite liked it, as my friends shortened my name into Sav, my last name starts with N and I live in a city. Logical choice then I’d say. She encouraged me to start over, a fresh and clean slate with a new blog and a new purpose. Fresh, clean, new? What happened?
Why I chose to write
I used to have a WordPress blog, where I worked on my 365 days project to take a picture every single day with the camera I had with me (phone, compact camera). I would then upload the picture on my blog, not in particular for anyone to see or comment on but more for me to see how my pictures and technique was evolving. Due to personal circumstances I put the project on hold and I honestly forgot about it for a while.
Then a couple of months ago (mid May 2015 to be exact) I was diagnosed with a burn-out.
I didn’t see it coming, thought I would be fine in a few weeks time, but boy was I wrong. One of the advices I got from my company doctor was to start writing off my frustrations, thoughts, fears and whatever other things I was brooding about. I also was told it would be good to pick up a hobby, so I chose to go back to photography. I don’t think that the advice about writing off my frustrations was meant to be shared publicly on WordPress, but I need to find out what makes me happy. Photo’s make me happy, writing in English makes me happy as I consider it to be a beautiful language and why not combine those into an attempt to share my photos and (only positive) thoughts with the world? My aim is not to grow my number of followers and be the biggest/best blogger in the universe (would be cool though) but just to show my view on the world as I see it through my camera.
I found out about the Blogging 101 and Writing 101 courses whilst setting up my new blog. I think it is a good way of learning how to set up content for your blog and how to start writing. Everyone has a story worth sharing, that I strongly believe in.
So here it goes, my story starts with this first post on my not so finished blog.
